Vektrex Incorporates LabVIEW 7 Express into MetamorphosisTM Systems

Vektrex, a member of National Instruments Alliance PartnerTM Program, today announced that it will begin delivering measurement systems that incorporate LabVIEW TM 7 Express, the latest version of National Instruments graphical development environment. These systems are developed using an enhanced version of Vektrex’s MetamorphosisTM development process. The enhanced process uses the new ease-of-use features of LabVIEW 7 Express to provide rapid system development capability. Features such as the new interactive Express VIs, DAQ and Instrument I/O Assistants, and a configuration-based approach to code generation, dramatically reduce development costs for Vektrex’s biomedical, telecommunications, semiconductor and military clients.

Vektrex developed the Metamorphosis process to streamline and guide system development. Metamorphosis features an iterative development model that is tailored to measurement system applications. Using the Metamorphosis process, Vektrex can assure clients of smooth project execution, on-time delivery and on-budget performance. Metamorphosis leverages best-of-class technologies such as LabVIEW and Interchangeable Virtual Instrument (IVI) drivers to provide innovative, software-based measurement solutions.

“For more than a decade, Vektrex has brought NI software and hardware to high-end measurement system users,” said Gricha Raether, National Instruments LabVIEW product manager. “We are excited to see how Vektrex will combine the benefits of LabVIEW 7 with the successful Metamorphosis development process to help users migrate their measurements to virtual instrumentation.”

Vektrex specializes in software-based measurement systems developed with the Metamorphosis process. This process focuses first on use-case analysis and requirements definition. Once project requirements are understood and documented, the system is designed using an architecture-centric and iterative process. Crucial design elements are investigated and prototyped prior to software or hardware development. This up-front care improves client communication and reduces project risks by exposing issues at early project phases. Actual project implementation occurs in iterations, with incremental functionality delivered at every stage. This exposes project stakeholders to the system at early project stages, ensuring project acceptance. The final iteration culminates in a formal acceptance test to verify the system meets documented requirements.

Vektrex is a San Diego systems integrator and software company focused on advancing measurement technology and the migration of measurements into software, making it faster and easier to get the measurements to be competitive.  Vektrex' clients span advanced technology industries including semiconductor, telecommunications, electronics, biotechnology, defense, and aerospace.  Vektrex' web page is  www.vektrex.com.

National Instruments (http://ni.com) is a technology pioneer and leader in virtual instrumentation - a revolutionary concept that has changed the way engineers and scientists approach measurement and automation. Leveraging the PC and its related technologies, virtual instrumentation increases productivity and lowers costs for customers worldwide through easy-to-integrate software, such as the NI LabVIEW graphical development environment, and modular hardware, such as PXI modules for data acquisition, instrument control and machine vision. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, NI has more than 3,000 employees and direct operations in 40 countries. In 2002, the company sold products to more than 25,000 different companies in more than 80 countries around the world. For the past four consecutive years, FORTUNE magazine has named NI one of the 100 best companies to work for in America.
