Vektrex Receives 5-year, $25 million-dollar Navy Contract

SAN DIEGO, Cal. 17 June 2004 - Vektrex Electronic Systems, Inc., a leading provider of obsolescence solutions, announced today that the U.S Navy has awarded the company a $25 million (maximum order amount) indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract for research and development, prototype development and fabrication, demonstration/validation, fabrication/production of hardware and software focused on retrofitting developed products into existing air and sea-based platforms pertaining to the development of Composite Replacement Instruments (CRIs). This new, five-year contract was competitively bid and calls for Vektrex to support the Navy and other services providing obsolescence solutions.

“This is the most significant agreement we’ve made with the U.S. Navy, and it is tangible recognition of Vektrex’ Composite Replacement Instrument solution to address obsolete instrumentation/modules in legacy Automated Test Equipment (ATE) and Common Support Systems (CSS). Vektrex is honored to support the Navy and honored to have successfully graduated from the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and transitioning SBIR and commercially developed technology into the fleet addressing joint services obsolescence,” said Melissa Ford, Vektrex President and CEO.

Jeff Hulett, Vektrex CTO added "Composite Replacement Instruments masquerade as the original obsolete instruments, seamlessly replacing them in test systems - without requiring costly software upgrade or rehost. CRIs provide the opportunity to extend the life of ATE systems, immediately improving reliability while reducing on-going support and maintenance costs. "

The work will be performed primarily in San Diego, California.
