Overview
Vektrex's SpikeSafe current
sources, fast power switches, and turn-key LED test systems fill specialized
needs for testing, characterization and high power optoelectronics drive. In
addition to these standard products, Vektrex develops customized power
solutions for many applications including laser diode stress screening and
homopolor motor testing.
SpikeSafe Current Sources
The SpikeSafe current sources
were developed in partnership with leading LED and laser diode
manufacturers. Early on in this partnership, secondary failures caused by
device failures transients were identified as a critical issue. These
failures skewed reliability data and the catastrophic nature of the failure
often made failure analysis impossible. To address these issues, Vektrex
developed SpikeSafeTM
protection that continuously monitors key parameters for anomalies
known to be associated with failures; if an anomaly is spotted, drive is
terminated - in many cases just before a catastrophic device failure occurs.
This rapid shutdown preserves the individual device for failure analysis and
it ensures that other devices in the circuit are not damaged.
SpikeSafe current sources are
highly modular and scalable. The same source can be configured as multiple
independent channels or sources can be combined to provide increased current
-- up to 320A with precision pulsing. Vektrex integrates these current
sources into our LED stress systems.
Fast Power Switch
The Fast Power Switch
supports fast transient testing and is designed to be an auxiliary to other,
slowing power supplies. By combining the Fast Power Switch with a typical
programmable supply, it is possible to drive a capacitive bus from 0V to
270V in 30nS, while sourcing hundreds of amps.
