Sensor Data Sheet (PDF)
Overview
For laboratory or embedded applications
requiring accurate measurement of DC, pulsed DC, or AC current, the Vektrex Hall-effect current sensors provide high-bandwidth current sensing
with an amplified 50-ohm voltage output that can be connected directly to an
oscilloscope or data acquisition system. Vektrex current sensors are magnetically isolated
like clamp-on oscilloscope probes, they are 5X to 10X less costly, and they
provide for secure cable attachment. Eliminates
Shunt Resistor Errors
Shunt measurements
produce very small amplitude signals that are subject to noise and parasitic
effects that reduce the measurement accuracy and distort the frequency
response. The result is often poor rise time, extra overshoot and extra undershoot. Shunts are also
problematic to use when measuring high-side
currents, as a differential amplifier must remove the high-side voltage before
a safe measurement can be made. Vektrex current
sensors eliminate shunt resistor errors, producing an accurate representation of the current signal.
"Yesterday I tried
it to diagnose a problem on a stack life test rack. One of the
difficulties with a laser stack (multiple bars) is that the voltage
is much higher (4 to 32 volts) and the pulsed current is very high
as well (up to 300 amps). A regular shunt has too much influence on
the circuit...and high voltage probes across the device don't work
so well. It worked great!"
