Vektrex has deployed a number of LED stress systems. These systems have been in use 7/24 for several years supporting environmental stress screening of LEDs. The systems drive 32, 8 channel load boards per rack. Each of the 32 outputs is redundant and interchangeable allowing hot-swapping of load boards during a test. With this capability the systems are only shut down twice per year for regular calibration cycles. Heat from the load boards is removed using water or liquid nitrogen cooling.

The systems are controlled with a Windows application that allows operators to set up parameters for a load board and then click to start a run. Run duration is then timed automatically and the operator is notified when it is time to remove a load board. Forward voltage and temperature measurements are collected during the test and logged along with any anomalies that are detected. The software supports the following Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) protocols and others:

• Room Temperature Operating Life Test (RTOL)
• High Temperature Operating Life Test (HTOL)
• Wet High Temperature Operating Life Test (WHTOL)
• Low Temperature Operating Life Test (LTOL)
• Power Forward Temperature Cycling
