The 10A SpikeSafe Source Measure is part of the SpikeSafe Source Measure Unit family. It incorporates continuous power conversion, which means no duty cycle or pulse width limitations. Output pulses have nanosecond rise and fall times – key to precise LED, VCSEL, and LIDAR photometric and electrical measurements. A precision hardware-controlled timing system supports pulse widths from 1µs to 15000s. This current source supplies precision DC, continuous pulse, and single pulse current with excellent pulse fidelity. Programmable load tuning alters the 10A SpikeSafe Source Measure Unit to compensate for load conditions, cable impedance and length. Hardware triggering ensures measurement repeatability. Multiple output conductor pairs keep maximum current/conductor below 5A, allowing the current output to be routed through standard switching and interconnect devices.
In addition to robust current capability, the SpikeSafe SMU features a low noise, true differential digitizer optimized for component testing. This digitizer can sample device Vf at 500ksps and pick up millivolt changes in voltage that occur during pulsed operation. This sensitivity supports the most accurate IES LM-85 and CIE 225 measurements. Other instruments, that rely on single-ended circuitry, suffer from high common mode noise, making accurate measurements difficult or impossible.
An optional bias current module supports junction temperature (Tj), thermal resistance (RΘ), and dynamic thermal impedance measurements.
Devices being tested are protected with a gentle turn-on during ramp-up and with SpikeSafe load protection during operation. SpikeSafe load protection continuously monitors voltage and current patterns and instantly shuts down the drive current when device anomalies are detected.
The notable specifications for this current source are as follows: the low range output current accuracy is 0.04%+350µA. The high range output current accuracy is 0.08%+2mA. The pulse width range is 1µs-15000s and the pulse width accuracy is 1µs. The pulse rise/fall time is 200ns-3µs and the typical pulse width jitter is 30ns.

10A Source Pulse Shapes
The 10A SpikeSafe Source Measure Unit offers programmable pulse width flexibility. It is capable of long pulse widths (ms to seconds) and short pulse widths (1us pulse widths and above). Pulse width accuracy is 1us with nanosecond pulse rise and fall times.
10A Performance Curves
The 10A model is available in two form factors; MINI and High Current. Both are available for use with 300W or 600W internal power supplies. The total output power available with the high current model is 1.6kW. For total output power, 1.6kW, an auxiliary power supply is required.
