On October 31, 2016, Jeff Hulett, Vektrex CTO, will present Optimizing Continuous Pulse LED Measurements for Maximum Accuracy at the CIE-USNC (CIE/USA) Annual Meeting to be held in conjunction with the IESNA meeting.

Increasingly, the industry is turning to continuous pulse methods for LED photometric measurements. Using this method, short current pulses at a low duty cycle are used to drive the LED, and the spectrometer integration time encompasses one or more pulse “on” times, along with some intervening “off” time. While this technique is best for measuring high power LEDs, as with all methods, errors exist. This paper presents techniques to identify, quantify, and minimize errors when using continuous pulse method.
